Facbook is causing syphilis

Facbook is causing syphilis I found an interesting article today by the San Francisco Chronicles. The article is addressing a new epidemic in which more and more cases of syphilis is developing amongst young people in the UK. Officials are speculating that Facbook is causing syphilis cases to rise. “Social networking sites are making it easier for people to meet up for casual sex” said professor Peter Kelly. Kelly is also the director of public health in Hartlepool, England. ( copy and paste link to read more) http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/techchron/detail?&entry_id=59826#ixzz0j8ySNnEX In my opinion, I truly believe there may be a correlation between the two. Social media has developed a new realm of communication. It changed the way we interact with people on daily basis. When people participate on social networking sites such as Facebook or Myspace it gives people the opportunity to disclose their personal information to the world. Such as, their age, their location, interests, employment, e-mail address, telephone number and relationship status. Ask yourself this. Will you give this type of information to a random person on the street? Social Media strips the process of face-to-face verbal communication. So, therefore, there is no additional information to be shared between two parties who have met on Facebook. Because the person has already viewed the other individuals profiles and they gained a sense of familiarity with each other. So, what is next to do? Relationships are established with random people. And it is possible that “Social networking sites are making it easier for people to meet up for casual sex. Mentioned by public health director in the UK Professor Kelly. What do you think?
